Primary Purpose: Perform professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, analysis, and reporting of financial data.

Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of budgeting, accounting systems, and payroll processing
Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB)
Knowledge of TEA’s Financial Accounting System Resource Guide (FASRG) Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures Ability to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases
Ability to work in an accurate and rapid manner
Ability to multitask and work on several tasks and/or projects at once
Strong organizational, time-management, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: School district/governmental accounting experience preferred Skyward financial software experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Accounting
1. Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries, budget transfers, and amendments
2. Propose revision to the budgets, account transfers, and amendments, if necessary, with concise explanations of needs and reasons for any change.
3. Reconcile District bank accounts and work with bank officials to make inquiries and resolve discrepancies in bank account records
4. Prepare and maintain accounts receivables invoices and accounts
5. Manage financial system accounts and assist with setup as needed
6. Prepare bank deposits by compiling data, verifying and balancing receipts, and depositing payment to the bank.
7. Review figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, proper codes, and budget availability. Page 2 of 3
8. Prepare monthly and final financial reports on special revenue funds ensuring expenditures and drawdowns are in compliance with federal laws and guidance.
9. Prepare income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and other statements and reports.
10. Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
11. Develop procedures, update financial manuals, and train campus and department secretaries and bookkeepers.
12. Develop custom financial reports in Skyward for campus and department users
13. Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal, state, and GASB standards.
14. Review and verify accuracy of budget codes, accounting methods, and procedures to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and TEA’s Financial Accountability Resource Guide (FASRG)
15. Assist in preparation of the annual budget
16. Remain knowledgeable and assist in implementing new accounting changes as directed by the Texas Education Agency
17. Participate in professional development and training programs to improve knowledge and performance
18. Set up and reconcile RevTrak orders for campuses and departments
19. Maintain the district’s fixed assets in the financial systems software
20. Prepare Time & Effort documentation for all grant-funded payroll
21. Prepare the participant listing for Southeast Texas Cooperative for submission to SHARS/MAC reimbursement
22. Assist with reconciling and resolving discrepancies in payroll and benefits account balances
23. Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined by the TEA Code of Ethics for educators
24. Work with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
25. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
26. Support the accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, human resources, payroll, and benefits functions as directed by the CFO.
27. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.
28. Perform other duties as assigned
