Underwriter

An underwriter decides whether to provide insurance and under what terms through detailed risk analysis and assessment. Upon completion of our in-depth training program, you will be given the tools to effectively underwrite and manage an assigned renewal book of business. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to travel periodically (less than 10% of time) and must possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Successful completion of the AMERISAFE Underwriting Operations Basic Development Program (training program)
  • Maintenance and servicing of an assigned book of renewal workers compensation policies that contribute to AMERISAFE profit and production goals
  • Applying sound judgment in determining an insurance risk’s acceptability through detailed research and risk analysis
  • Negotiating pricing and coverage details within the designated level of authority
  • Working as an effective team member to develop and foster professional relationships with internal and external customers
  • Participating in projects, professional development opportunities, and special assignments
  • Others as assigned
